THE LOCAL AG SHOWS HAVE BEEN AND GONE
Berry-Jan
30/31 Nowra- Feb 6/7
Kangoroo Valley- Feb 13/14
Numbers were down at the local ag shows this year, partly due to the extremely hot weather we had through January and early Feb, and partly due to a lot of Coccidiosis that reduced the feed bill for 3 or 4 breeders in the St Georges Basin/ Sussex Inlet area before Christmas.
The junior section of the Nowra show was again popular and the general condition of the exhibits around the whole show was good considering the weather of past weeks.
The ag shows in our area fall at a difficult time of year with older birds molting and young stock often not ready yet, however it is important that our club participates and promotes them as well as we can to support the Nowra show society .
Judy and her hands free microphone (Brodie) kept those that braved the 40 deg + temperatures entertained with chook washing demonstrations throughout the day at Nowra agricultural show.
Jason beat all comers for the heaviest bird competition with his Rhode Island Red cock weighing in at 5.00 kg. Nowra poultry club hopes to see more novelty style classes at next years Nowra show.
The Stannard family couldn't enter their Orpingtons in the poultry ring this year but Josh did his bit for the Ag show by displaying his up and coming Bullock team. Josh is seen here lining up to join the grand parade behind his mentor Ron at the Nowra show.
